Trees: Winter and Spring

$560.00

I have been experimenting with watercolor "ground" lately. It is a very viscous material used to cover mistakes and be painted over. However, I have been using it as a medium to create texture in my watercolor art. Here, it is used as snow in the winter scene. Usually, watercolor artists will paint the negative spaces and leave the white paper exposed to create snow scenes. But I went one step further and decided I want to create depth so I used the watercolor ground. It is a pearlescent white so it shimmers when held up to the light.

This painting is called a diptych, or two paintings that make one image. The first half is the winter scene. The second half of the diptych are the same trees but in spring time. Watercolor ground was not used for this scene. I used India ink to create the trees in both paintings.

It is fun to experiment and I am always looking for ways to take my art to the next level. I think I achieved that here.

These paintings will be sold together. Together they measure 10” x 28”. They are neither matted nor framed. I recommend you take them to a professional framer and they should know how to frame them together.

This diptych painting would make a nice addition to your home or office.
