I originally painted Maroon Dahlias back in 2009. Back then, I wanted to experiment with a new paint color, a new brush, or a background color. The original background color was yellow and I enjoyed my new maroon color. But, I always thought it looked too much like the wallpaper I grew up with. So, I reworked this painting, cropped it to focus on the beautiful dahlias, and gave it a better background color. I also added some pink in the highlighted areas to give it more pop. I'm extremely happy with the outcome and hope that I enjoy it as much as I do!
